The sixth-grade attended a presentation about the Be Nice program that started last year at WMS. This program was created by the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan, and is ‘a mental health education, bully and suicide prevention initiative that creates a positive cultural change through simple daily actions.’
The be nice. Action Plan teaches people to notice, invite, challenge, and empower themselves and others. How you treat someone can have a direct effect on how they think, act, and feel - their mental health. The be nice. education initiative creates awareness and can save lives. Williamston Middle School now has a be nice. leadership committee made up of 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students. These students plan, facilitate, and share the be nice. initiative with their peers. This year, these students led the 6th-grade presentation, as well as helped plan the review lesson for 7th and 8th graders. Once per month, academic overtime (AOT) class will be dedicated to sharing more about mental health and the be nice. Action Plan.
We encourage parents to become familiar with the action plan and talk with their children about how to support themselves and others.
