Pastries and Pages at Explorer and Discovery Elementary Schools
Over 75 Williamston elementary students participated in the summer Hornet Book Club sponsored by the PTSA. Students discussed their summer reading with each other and parent volunteers at a recent "Pastries and Pages" event.
Inspired by our former mailman, Ron, the Hornet Book Club was created to help with the summer slide that can happen between school years. Students in 1st through 4th grades picked a book from a selected list. 1st Graders read one of two Magic Treehouse books and the 2nd-4th Graders read a book from the "Who was/is..." series. The books were distributed during the last week of school for students to take home for the summer.
In the fall, the students gather for one morning to have conversations about the book they read. Parent volunteers moderate the discussions as students talk and snack on breakfast pastries before school. This is the 3rd year the program has run at the elementary campus. Thank you to the PTSA for sponsoring the pastries and purchasing the books!
