Elementary Art Students Win National Honors

Two Williamston elementary students have earned national recognition for their artwork. Madeline, a student at Discovery Elementary, won second place in the national Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl poster competition. Explorer student Ellie, earned a national honorable mention for her Recycled Sculpture entry.

Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl Poster Competition 2019

Every year students at Discovery and Explorer Elementary Schools create and complete in the annual Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl poster competition which is sponsored locally by the Red Cedar Garden Club.  This year, second-grader Madeline achieved first place at the local, state, and regional levels and a second place at the national level from her poster for Woodsy Owl. Additionally, fourth and fifth-grade students were able to compete in a Recycled Sculpture competition which led to a national honorable mention for fourth-grader Ellie.  She achieved first place finishes at the local, state, and regional levels. Congratulations to our national awardees!
