Explorer Elementary Student's Essay Earns Visit from Howell Nature Center
An essay submitted by an Explorer Elementary student as part of a unit on persuasive writing earned fifth-grade students a special visit from the Howell Nature Center. Explorer also was a recipient of the Spirit of Alexandria grant, which supported the event.
Malachi, a fifth-grade student at Explorer, wrote a persuasive essay to Howell Nature Center. He selected the nature center because of his love for animals and requested that they join his class to teach about them. His class also received funding from The Spirit of Alexandria Foundation to support the visit. Instructors from Howell Nature Center taught lessons focused on nocturnal creatures and provided a separate learning session within the Nature Bus.
