Wax Museum

Fifth-grade students at Explorer Elementary participated in the annual Wax Museum project. The activity was attended by a large audience of staff, students, and parents spanning two gymnasiums. The Wax Museum presentations also feature the completion of a research paper. The activity is a cross-curricular project linking reading, writing, and social studies content. Every fifth-grade student selects a historical figure who has made a positive contribution to American history. Students conduct research, organize their information, and then write a formal essay. The Wax Museum is the grand finale of the unit, in which each student dresses in likeness to their researched historical figure and shares their accompanying speech in efforts to teach others about our past.
