Third-grade students from Explorer Elementary visited Harris Nature Center in Meridian Township. The out-of-school learning experience was an extension of current science units focused on plants and animals.
At the center, students participated in a nature walk where they explored different trees and plants native to Michigan. Students "built" a tree in which each student was a different part of the tree and each part had to work together to make the tree successful. Students also took part in seeing and touching different animals native to Michigan such as box turtles, milk snakes, and two red-tailed hawks.
