Explorer Elementary Students Support Veterans Fighting Cancer

Fourth-grade students in Mr. Meteyer's classroom supported veterans battling cancer through a letter and card writing campaign. The effort was initiated by Jadelyn, who has a parent serving in the military, earning a grant to support such an initiative. The students have been recognized by their state and U.S. Senators for their efforts.

Jadelyn began the project by earning a $250 Hershey's grant to make masks and cards for military veterans. Jadelyn involved her teacher and classmates and were able to reach numerous veterans undergoing cancer treatment. After hearing of this initiative, the students were recognized with citations from U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow and Michigan Senator Tom Barrett. Students from Mr. Meteyer's classroom are pictured below displaying the certificates.
