Williamston Community Schools arranged a free prom for high school juniors and seniors. Prom was held under an open event tent at the football and track complex in downtown Williamston. The activity met all Covid-19 safety requirements per the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Prom included individually packaged meals provided by several local restaurants, a dance floor and DJ, professional photography, decorations, and a souvenir.
School leaders had to make numerous adjustments to the arrangements over the last several months. Prom plans first changed when the original venue was canceled due to Covid-19 indoor gathering restrictions. “The class and student government advisors did a phenomenal job of thinking ‘outside the box’ to provide a memorable event for our students,” said Williamston High School Principal, Dr. Steven Delp.
Several additional revisions to the plan were made in order to comply with updated DHHS orders and local health department guidelines. “The students had a great time,” said Delp. “After such a difficult year, we were thrilled to be able to provide this experience at no cost to our students or their families.”
