Discovery Elementary Teacher Named MSTA Fellow
The Michigan Science Teachers Association (MSTA) announced WCS Educator Kortney Smith has been selected as one of 24 fellows statewide. The fellowship is part of MSTA's "Elevating Educator Voices for High-Quality Science Education" initiative. Ms. Smith is a Young-Fives teacher at Discovery Elementary School. WCS Earns New Accolades
Williamston High School was named to the U.S. News and World Report Best U.S. High Schools list for the sixth consecutive year. Williamston Equestrian Team Captures State Championship

Willy the Hornet Wins Logo Competition
Williamston won the Lansing State Journal Best High School Logo competition. The best logo poll included multiple rounds of public voting throughout the month of September. Willy accumulated almost 16,000 votes in the final round vs. Portland. Select the link to learn more.

Williamston Celebrates Homecoming, 2024
WCS celebrated Homecoming 2024 with a variety of special activities and Spirit Day themes. Traditional events like the downtown parade were complimented by new ones such as bleacher decorating at the high school. Be Nice Spirit Week at WCS
Williamston Community Schools held its third annual Be Nice Spirit Week. Be Nice is a student-led organization focusing on defeating the stigma around mental health. WCS Educator Wins Coding Competition
Williamston High School teacher Raymond Herek won the Earsketch "Teach to the Beat" coding contest. Earsketch is a platform utilized in Williamston's award-winning AP Computer Science Principles course. Students create music through sampling and coding in the JavaScript language. Mr. Herek submitted an entry into a teacher competition and was selected as the Creativity in Code award winner. Learn more by selecting the link.

Williamston Softball Earns Highest Division II Team GPA
The Williamston Varsity Softball team earned the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) in Division II this past spring. The team's overall GPA was an impressive 3.84. The Hornets excelled on the field as well, posting a 20-9 overall record and going 10-0 in the CAAC while earning the conference championship.

WHS InvenTeam Awarded Patent

Becky Durling, a Young Fives teacher at Discovery Elementary, has been selected as a national finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Ms. Durling has been an instrumental part of Williamston's award-winning STEAM initiative. She was previously recognized as the Michigan Science Teachers Association Teacher of the Year. Coach Kersten Inducted into Michigan Football Hall of Fame
Williamston Head Football Coach Steve Kersten was selected to the Michigan Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Coach Kersten has coached the Hornets since 2001, compiling a 144 - 89 record. His accomplishments include 16 state playoff bids, including reaching the state finals in 2010. Learn more by selecting the link.
