District Logo

Willy the Hornet and the "Block W" is the official logo of Williamston Community Schools. In 2024, the readers of the Lansing State Journal named it the top school logo in the Greater Lansing area.
The origins of Williamston's logo and color scheme date back to the 1930s. The story goes that students were tasked to paint a shed at the school green, and discovered a swarm of hornets inside. The Enterprise newspaper first referred to the "Williamston Hornets" in articles covering athletic competitions in 1933 (Lutzke, 2023, p. 198).
The Hornet logo has gone through several different iterations over its almost 100 years of existence. The current version was designed by WHS graduate Aaron Nilsson in 2000 after a request by the Board of Education. The "Block W" was updated and standardized throughout the District in 2016. Both Willy the Hornet and the "Block W" were trademarked in 2017.
