Welcome to the Special Education Department!
As the Director of Special Education for Williamston Community Schools, my professional objective is to provide strong leadership that is committed to instilling a lifetime love of learning in every student and adult. I believe that every child can succeed, and should be encouraged to think deep, work hard and strive for their personal best.
This web page is offered to provide an introduction to the special education programs offered by the Williamston Community School District. Additionally some helpful websites have been provided as a resource, such as the Ingham Intermediate School District’s Guide to Special Education. Our goal is to provide programs and services that are tailored to meet the needs of students. A vast majority of students who are eligible for services are supported in their school with assistance from a resource room teacher, an ancillary support provider or a teacher consultant. All placement and programming decisions are made at Individual Educational Planning team meetings. Parents are important members of this educational team that helps determine the appropriate programs and services for your child.
The field of Special Education is ever-changing. Programs and services are now in place to help students that are in need of specific supports. The entire process can be overwhelming and intimidating. My staff and I offer our support to you. As partners with you, the building team and myself can provide information and answers regarding the special education process, programs and services whenever needed.
Please feel free to contact the Special Education Department with any questions or concerns. It is a pleasure to be partnering with you to provide the best educational services possible for our Williamston families!
Sincerely,
Dr. Michele Cook, Director of Special Education
