Common Core Standards define the targets for K-12 English Language Arts and Mathematics instruction. These standards provide a clear understanding of what students are expected to learn. They are rigorous and relevant to real world applications and provide the knowledge and skills students need to succeed in college and careers.
By reviewing the standards, parents and teachers will know what needs to be done to help students. Williamston teachers will be reviewing the standards and aligning instruction during the 2011-2012 school year. State assessment of the standards is scheduled for 2014-15 school year. THe assessment will be a regional assessment including Michigan with other mid-western states.
This video clip from Edutopia provides a focused explanation of the challenges for schools in the international community. The curriculum and instruction and assessment practices in our classrooms is changing in order to prepare our children for the world they will live in.
US Geography Practice
See how you do in placing the states of the United States Of America .
All you do is look at the top of the page and drag'n'drop the state to where
it belongs.
[Smart map, varies the order of the states' placement with each new try!]
It's not easy. Mostly because placing a state in the precise location when
it as yet has no boundaries in place is a bit tricky! No half credit for
close. Good luck! . http://jimspages.com/States.htm
